what I thought about "flowering judas and other stories"

Katherine Anne Porter reminds me a bit of Willa Cather and a bit of Wallace Stegner.  Similar gift for narrative detail, similar subject matter.  My favorite story was the first one, "Maria Concepcion."  She's talented.  I like Cather and Stegner better, though.  Maybe I'll check out "Pale Horse, Pale Rider" and see if my opinion changes.

  1. Are you reading these books this quickly, or are you just jotting notes down as you think of things? I can't keep up! Just kidding, this is giving me lots of books to think of reading. I usually read a couple of books a week, but I am in the middle of a big house painting project, and I am barely keeping up with everyday life. I notice you are reading the Devil in the White City. I will be interested in what you think. This is one of those books I just could not finish.

  2. I don't have a whole lot going on right now that keeps me from reading, so I can get through them fairly quickly. I am refusing to think about the basement bedroom that needs painting right now.

So far Devil in the White City is okay.

  3. Oh, I agree about Devil in the White City, Beckster. Everyone loved it and I didn't, and it was the type of book I usually do love.
Layne, I've never read any KAP, but her books were always floating around our house when I was a kid. I must go to the library today and get Handmaid's Tale. MUST.
